Monte Cuchumá

With an elevation of 1,520 m, the top of the Cuchumá, whose Yuman name means "old warrior" is the most emblematic of the surrounding mountains, which spreads across boundaries of United States and Mexico.

Surrounded by the magic typical of Mexico, the Hidalgo Park (AV. Juárez and Lázaro Cárdenas) located in the heart of Tecate, is the center where flows most of social life. Every day, locals and visitors sit at the fresh benches underneath century old trees beside the kiosk, or enjoy a rich coffee under the umbrellas of restaurants nearby, leaving their talks to mix with the festive music of Northern Mexico trios.

The neighboring streets decorated with the color of cafeterias, Ice cream shops and crafts shops accentuate the cheerful nature of this beautiful and laid back place, where the essence of the Mexican province breathes in every corner.

Clay Handicrafts

Tecate offers many locations selling Mexican traditional clay pots, tiles and floors for home or commercial use.

All pieces are handmade and cooked in wood ovens. Most of the production is exported to the United States.

Consider a stop at Tecate Brewery (AV. Miguel Hidalgo and Dr. Arturo war.)the brewery produces some of the finest quality Mexican beer recognized world wide ,The brand Tecate has placed the city on an international level. Established in 1943, since then has operated successfully - now forming part of the Cuahutémoc-Moctezuma beer producers-exporting product to the United States, Canada and Japan. The Brewery offers tastings and tours prior reservation (Phone 01 (665) 654 9478), Mon-Fri 10: 00 to 12: 00 hrs., and 3: 00 to 4: 30 hrs. SaturIn your itinerary should keep the Tecate Brewery (AV. One of the most pleasurable ways to visit Tecate is on-board train museum .A historical mid-19th century locomotive , which departs the train station at Campo CAL., USA . The scenic mountain side trip is carried out 1 or 2 times per month and has duration of 1 hour 15 minutes each way. Final stop is the Tecate Brewery where passengers receive a complementary beer and tour of the plant.

Rural Tourism

Among mountains that surround Tecate , there are countless natural spaces with camping areas, RV parks and recreational ranches conceived for leisure to its guests. Sophisticated spas, horse rides or mountain bike trails, thermal springs and comfortable cabins settled at the foot of mountain ranges covered pine and oak trees; these are the alternatives offered the Tecate surroundings.

Some of the most recommended are Rancho La Puerta, a unique development for integral rest, considered among the best spas of the world. Rancho Ojai, equipped with cabins, sports areas and all the basic services. Rancho Los Chabacanos, cabins and a spa of international quality. And the Hacienda Santa Veronica, with pool, restaurant, hotel, extensive green areas.

Taking the Toll road to Mexicali , East of Tecate you will find  scenarios where the nature and history have left a significant heritage mark.

The archaeological site and Museum Alaska field (Phone 01 (686) 557 1647,located at km. 60, Wed-Sun 10: 00 am to 4: 00 pm), built in 1916, which was Government buildings, military barracks, and school, is an interesting Museum which exhibits historic photographs of the region. While the Vallecito (Tel 01 (686) 552 3591, located at km. 72, Wed-Sun 8: 00amto 5: 00 pm hrs.) offers a rock paintings tour of up to 1,500 yearsold.

The most famous is the Diablito, magically lit during the winter solstice (21 and 22 December) each year. A few minutes’ drive will get you to the rugged slopes of La Rumorosa rock mountain formations from the glazier period that will amaze your senses with a stone landscape , easier to find in the planet Mars than on Earth.

North Gate to wine route

Only 20 minute drive separate the wonderful Valley of las Palmas from Tecate, here you will find small town that offers wine growers, tanned olives and olive oil in a colorful rural setting.
