SIERRA DE SAN PEDRO MÁRTIR NATIONAL PARK

San Pedro

After traveling on a road surrounded by vegetation, climate and fauna constantly change while the kilometers pass by: from a breezy coast to a warm valley, then to a rustic thicket, and furthermore arriving at the snowy tops of pines and firs in less than a day. It is definitely a unique experience, amazing minute by minute, with cougar, hawk, ram, coyote and eagle inhabiting in Sierra de San Pedro Mártir and in the more than 65 thousand hectares which constitute the park.

This natural area, which is home to the National Astronomy Observatory of the Autonomus University of Mexico, possesses an amazing flora and fauna richness, with pine, fir, cypress and poplar forests, that offer shelter to small and big animal species. The rain and the mountain defrosting feed the bajacalifornian creeks; its canyons –Del Diablo, La Providencia and Toledo- are refreshed with endless wells and cascades, and they are home of interesting petrogliphs and cave paintings.

The mountain tops of San Pedro Mártir –the tallest in the peninsula- offer spectacular views from sea to sea: from Mar de Cortés to the Pacific Ocean.
