Bahía de San Luis Gonzaga [ San Luis Gonzaga Bay]
 |
It was discovered in 1746 by Dominic missionaries; it was constituted as an strategic place of the peninsula for the supplying of goods for building and developing the missions around, such as Santa María de los Ángeles mission, located 12 miles to the west of the bay, as well as Calamajué mission, located at the south of the bay.
The settlement of families at the beaches and the Gulf of Cortés was difficult mainly because of the lack of roads and water. However, the pioneers of Baja California’s development cleverly started small businesses such as lodging, mining and fishing, as well as tourism services. Through the years, these pioneers’ vision and effort have made of this place an important tourist attraction for national and foreign visitors, who look forward to take a rest away from the noisy big cities, to relax and to enjoy the natural beauties of Baja California. |
After driving through an unpaved road departing from federal highway Num. 1 (Transpeninsular), surrounded by a captivating desert full of huge cirios and cardones cactus, and other fascinating cactus plants, unique in the world, you will get to one of the most remote, beautiful and still virgin bays within the State: Bahía de San Luis Gonzaga, which is a natural paradise that keeps its enchantments in the beauty of its views, the richness of its biodiversity and the contrast between the Mar de Cortés and the rustic desert of the peninsula. An earth and sea paradise, full of life and constant action, which may not be missed. |
