Cañón Histórico de Rosarito [Historic Canyon of Rosarito]
The Cañón Histórico de Rosarito is within the municipality of Playas de Rosarito, where there is a river, which is dry during most of the year. It was there that the first division line between the two Californias was indicated (Mojonera de Palou), valid between 1788 and 1884.
The Cañón Histórico de Rosarito offers the visitor a panorama quite different from the traditional environment that distinguishes such part of the coast; with zucchini, radish, onion and tomato crops, and other vegetables; wild flower fields, old houses and ranches open to the public, where you can find pools, barbeque grills, sporting courts and other attractions. The Cañón Histórico de Rosarito is like traveling to the peninsula’s rural past, in which you will enjoy walking, horseriding and delicious outdoors country meals; within one of the places that defined the origin of our State.
During the month of October, when the Sociedad de Historia de Rosarito A. C. [Rosarito’s Historical Society]celebrates the Fiestas de las Fronteras [Borders Parties] in memory of the division lines’ definition of 1773 and 1778, as part of the celebration, a horseriding and a walk are performed, beginning from the Mojonera de Palou, until reaching one of the old ranches of the Cañón Histórico de Rosarito.
