BAJA CALIFORNIA’s PROTECTED NATURAL AREAS

San Pedro MartirIn addition to the suggested rural sites, there are protected natural areas in Baja California, which are portions of national territory representing the diverse ecosystems of the country, which have not been substantially modified by men yet, and thus they produce remarkable ecological benefits.

The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources describes different categories of protected areas. The main areas are Reservas de la Biosfera [Biosphere Reserves], Parques Nacionales [National Parks] and Areas de Protección de Flora, Fauna y Recursos Naturales [Flora, Fauna and Natural Resurces Protected Area].

Baja California has six protected natural areas, in which we find Constitución 1857 y San Pedro Mártir National Parks, Flora and Fauna Protected Areas in Islas del Golfo de California and Valle de los Cirios, Isla Guadalupe, Alto Golfo de California, and Delta del Río Colorado Biosphere Reserves.

We furthermore present only the National Parks of the State of Baja California , its location, surface, denomination, climate, flora, fauna, ways of access , suggested routes and activities to be performed. Likewise, you may locate the remaining protected natural areas in the attached map, as well as the ranches, swimming pools, and tourism fields close to such areas, in the Baja California ’s rural sites guide.
