GENERAL SUGGESTIONS

  • Avoid making noises that disturb the other visitors or that affect the natural behavior of the area.

  • Make sure your vehicle is not leaking oil so the ground’s field is not polluted; if performing a mechanical repair, please take back used parts to the city.

  • Try not to make fires. If unavoidable, please use a clear zone, clean off the vegetation within twelve feet around and surrounding the fire with reasonable sized stones. Prior to leaving, extinguish the fire and the ashes thoroughly, either with water or by covering them with soil.

  • Do not dump matches, cigars or any other lit item.

  • Camping only in the areas destined for such effect.

  • It is strictly forbidden to paint or engrave (graffiti) the rocks or trees.

  • Do not remove or cut plants off, especially cactus, you could be incurring a federal felony.

  • Do not hunt nor capture animals, do not destroy their nests or burrows, and neither use any kind of weapon nor device for catching fauna.

  • Follow the personnel and specialized tourist guide’s directions regarding the protected natural areas.

  • Flora and fauna not endemic from the zone, are harmful for the site, avoid bringing pets with you.

  • Obey the minimum distances required for wild fauna watching.

  • Interact with and learn from the local residents, indigenous communities and support their conservation efforts.

On the road:

  • Drive at a moderate speed, trying not to exceed 50 mi/hr even though the road allows go faster.

  • Verify that your vehicle is in good conditions.

  • Avoid driving at night; light is precarious in most of the roads and it may be hard to avoid obstacles, such as cows or horses.

  • When organizing your schedule, take into account that days are much shorter when traveling during winter.

  • Take precaution about gasoline, since on holidays or winter there could be a gas shortage in some gas stations. Avoid letting your tank go lower than half .

  • In order to drive on unpaved roads, it is suggested to lower the air pressure of your vehicle tires (up to 16 lb. minimum); bring a spare tire and the necessary tooling.

  • High vehicles in good condition are suggested for the unpaved sections.

In the field:

  • An essential camping rule is taking back everything you take with you.

  • Get rid of the trash when back at home.

  • If you wash any utensil, do it in a container without soap, not directly in the water source.

  • Avoid camping alone.
