CONSTITUCIÓN DE 1857 NATIONAL PARK

1857Located in the extreme north of the peninsula at a medium altitude of 1,650 meters, with a surface of more than 5 thousand and nine hectares of forest of diverse species of pine reaching up to 30 meters in height. The Constitución 1857 National Park is an authentic oasis engraved in the middle of the warm and desertic bajacalifornia landscape. We find roads and faraway places in it, which embrace us in a world of adventure, natural beauty, and which take us to a place of unique peace of mind with quiet and cold nights that light-up with all the lights of the Milky Way. There are two lagoons in this parks: Hanson and Laguna Chica, both of them covering an extension of approximately 500 hectares in winter, being almost empty during summer.

In addition to this and its wide biodiversity, this place is an authentic park without limits for fun and country rest.

Activities:

  • Enjoying a picnic.

  • Performing expeditions, camping, mountain biking, walking, wild flora and fauna watching, and photo shooting safaris.

  • Boat trips or canoeing on the lagoons.

  • Camping or renting a cabin in the nearby ranches.

  • Enjoying the beauty of the Laguna Hanson.

  • Trips to Rodeo del Rey ranch, where there is an ostrich exhibit and a small museum, open carriages (calandrias) and wagon rides, restaurants and other attractions. It is located 8 minutes driving towards the north by the Rumorosa road (after passing the forest booth).

National Park since 1962; priority area.

Location:

Vertiente Occidental (Western slope) of Sierra de Juárez, in the municipality of Ensenada B.C.

Surface:

5,009 hectares

Weather:

Extreme mediterranean climate, with dry and hot summers and rainy winters, snowing during some pretty cold stages.

Wild life:

Bura Deer, coyote, cougar, ram, fox, rabbit, bald eagle, hawk, quail, among others.

Vegetation:

Beautiful pine, holm oak, and fir forests, among others

Access:

There are two roads, the first one is departing from Ensenada to San Felipe by road #3, passing Ojos Negros and getting to km. 57, taking the unpaved road towards north and keep on going 21 miles. The second one is departing from Mexicali to Tijuana by road #2, passing La Rumorosa until Km. 72, keep on going for 35 miles on the unpaved road. 4x4 vehicles are suggested for this road.
