GASTRONOMY
In Baja California you can find a wide variety of quality cuisine, the State calendar of events certainly covers several gastronomic events that bring out the best of the traditional Baja California State cuisine.
When visiting the different points of our State treat yourself with authentic Mexican dishes, a delicious seafood paella in Ensenada, the exquisite lobster Puerto Nuevo style served with beans, rice and giant flour tortillas, named after the quaint little town who invented. In Baja California you can find the freshest seafood you have ever imagine and of course the world famous fish tacos.
While in Tecate, try the freshly baked Mexican style sweet rolls and the Brigidina's Sisters "Rompope" (a mexican version of Eggnog with alcohol). Mexicali is famous for its Chinese Cuisine, there are more that 120 Chinese restaurants waiting for you.
As you may not know.... there are some now world known recipes that were originally created in Baja California, such as the Caesar's salad, the Clamato and the refreshing Margaritas.
Mexico enjoys a good reputation regarding wine production, the 90% of the country production takes place at "El Valle de Guadalupe" (Guadalupe Valley) and Valle de San Antonio de las Minas; booth just north from Ensenada. No visit to Baja California is complete, without a tour to this area, also named Bordeaux Region: Valle de Guadalupe.
Every year during the summer, the wineries celebrate the annual Vendimia festival. The festivities include gourmet dinners, concerts, food and wine tasting. For more information check the events calendar for July and August.
