Margarita
One of the most famous drinks around the world, known as “The Queen of Cocktails”, found as its hometown the beautiful seaport of Ensenada , Baja California . Created by Mr. David Negrete Covarrubias, who arrived to Baja California in the early ‘40s, setting himself at the port where he worked in important bars of that time such as Hotel Cadillac and the old Casino Riviera del Pacífico. Furthermore becoming a hotel and restaurant businessman of this port.
The story goes that one time, when Mr. Negrete, better known as “Deny”, was working at the bar as usual, a customer and a friend of hers asked him for a salty drink, since she liked her drinks with salt, and it bothered her to be salting them every time.
In that instant “Deny” took the martini shaker, he squeezed an ounce of lemon, added an ounce and a half of Tequila and three quarters of an ounce of Contreau (orange liquor), furthermore taking a champagne glass from that time, wetting the glass edge with lemon, and then frosted it with salt, forming on it a beautiful white ring and so serving for the first time the “Margarita” cocktail, honoring her friend, Miss Margarita Orozco.
Later on, this drink was presented to the world with its original presentation and flavor, in the First Regatta from New Port Beach California to Ensenada in the year 1950. Up to this date, and around the world it is served in a Margarita glass frosted with salt.
