The Grand gateway to Mexico

Settled on the the boundaries between Mexico and the State of California USA, Tijuana is a progressive, recognized city by having the most visited border crossing in the world. Modern, traditional, cosmopolitan with a privileged location that has not only favored it as a diverse cultural expressions scenario, but also as one of the main industrial, commercial and tourist centers in the North-West of the Mexican Republic.

Downtown

A first approach to downtown district Tijuana must begin in Revolution Avenue, the most emblematic of all. Thanks to its intense commercial life, it is easy to imagine the past of casinos, canteens and dance halls that during the first quarter of the 20th century would push the growth of the city. Nowadays, you can still enjoy a good number of bars and restaurants that alongside the numerous Mexican crafts shops that light up the night’s downtown district.

Melting pot

The city was founded in 1889, economy and culture of Tijuana have been heavily influenced by the relationship between Mexico and the United States, particularly with the city of San Diego, located only 64 km away.

About the name

One possible origin is said that the Tijuana word comes from the Yuman term "ti-wan", which means "near the sea".
