Ecotourism
and Adventure Route

Pasion for Nature

As if taken from an adventures writer imagination, the geography of Baja California extends over a sinuous peninsula slowly emerging from the continent. Mountain ranges covered snow-capped forests, unwavering deserts, cold and warm water seas, coastal lagoons and rocky islands make up the face of this paradise of endemic biodiversity, whose value and beauty are simply immeasurable.

The protected natural areas of Parque Nacional Constitucion 1857 (5,009ha, 91 km from Ensenada) and the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir (65,000, 321km from Ensenada ) located north of the State, open to hikers two densely populated tree forests , ideal for the camping and enjoyment of the fresh aromas of cedar, oak and pine . Well equipped to host families who want a rewarding contact with nature, the Constitution National Park offers cabins, restaurants and ecotourism ranches with horse and carriage rides.

The Sierra de San Pedro Mártir boasts the presence of Picacho del Diablo (devils peak), the highest point of the peninsula (3,0905 m) and the National Astronomical Observatory, the second largest telescope in Latin America.

Southbound, the Valle de los Cirios (2.5 million ha, 178 km from San Quintin, see article on Cataviña) is a huge desert that acts as the biological corridor between Desierto Del Vizcaino (Biscayne desert) and the Sierra de San Pedro Mártir.

Giant cardones and the cirio endemic plant are the best area representatives. A visit to Canon de Guadalupe (Guadeloupe Canon) is important ( 82 km from the town La Rumorosa.) where steep granite walls are the Lair of secret hot springs, waterfalls and cold water ponds.

Here rappel, mountain biking and rock climbing are excellent options. Within walking distance, Canones de Tajos (km 37 from Canon Guadalupe) and Llanos (within 72 km of Tecate) offer similarly excellent conditions for such activities.

Because of their size and biodiversity, some of the most important ones are Isla Guadalupe and Isla de Cedros in the Pacific; and the Isla Angel de la Guarda, in the sea of Cortés. On land, west of the peninsula you can visit San Bahia San Quintín and Bahia Todos los Santos, as well as Bahia de Los Angeles on the east coast.
