GUERRERO NEGRO

Guerrero Negro

Guerrero Negro is located at 130 Km. south the Parador Punta Prieta and at 200 Km. from Bahía de los Ángeles, its name was taken from a ship named “Black Warrior”, which was a whaler ship built in the shipyards of Duxbury, Massachussets. This ship carried out hunting trips in the Indic Ocean until 1945, and north of the Pacific until 1851. In  1858 it arrived at Bahía de Vizcaíno in order to hunt whales however, due to the lagoon barrier and strong waves, it got stuck causing the ship to sink. Years later, its name was translated to Spanish as Guerrero Negro, same current name of the lagoon and the city.
