CATAVIÑA

122 Km. south from El Rosario you’ll find Cataviña, located in the middle desert of Baja California, which invite us to experience the Bajacalifornian desert in a unsurpassed way. Here you will find an incredible garden of huge rocky formations resembling any kind of abstract shape and form, as well as cave paintings, canyons and roads that will lead you to discover the secrets of the deserts natural wonders.

How to get there
The Transpeninsular Highway Num. 1 leads us south along the Valle de los Cirios, This Highway runs from Tijuana to Ensenada to south of San Quintín and El Rosario; the highway herein sets apart the sea and enters the desert running from northwest to southeast up to the cross road Punta Prieta. Starting from this point, the highway runs back near the Pacific coast and turns towards Guerrero Negro.

Cirio (Fouquieria Columnaris)
The Cirio is an arboreal plant whose stems store water, its existence is almost restricted to the Peninsula of Baja California. It is also known as boojum tree. This plant reaches a 20 meter height. The cirio looks like an enormous carrot turned upside down, and several branches looking alike roots come out from its apex. It is an abundant plant around Cataviña, where it stands out among the granite rocks to offer an extraordinary beautiful view.
